Meet the Team | Zach Curry, Project Scientist

March 24, 2021

Zach Curry joined Envirologic as a Project Scientist in 2017. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Geology from Grand Valley State University. When Zach was initially brought onto Envirologic’s staff, he worked extensively in the realm of environmental due diligence, where he gained expertise in Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, Baseline Environmental Assessments, and Due Care Documentation. His role has since evolved, and he now serves primarily as a member of our Environmental Investigation & Remediation Group.

Over the past few years, Zach has worked out of Envirologic’s satellite office in Muskegon, Michigan. Envirologic has maintained a strong relationship with the city of Muskegon for the past 10 years. During that time, our team has worked on notable developments in the downtown area including the new Convention Center, Lake View Lofts, and Pigeon Hill Brewing Company’s new production facility. Envirologic continues to expand our presence and capabilities throughout Muskegon County to better serve our many clients in the area.

Zach’s day-to-day responsibilities include installing and operating vapor mitigation systems, overseeing the installation of physical barriers (for vapor intrusion) at construction sites, conducting vapor pin installation and soil gas sampling, and overseeing underground storage tank (UST) removal and completing related UST site assessments. Zach’s transition allows him to expand his training and capabilities to include vapor mitigation system Operation & Maintenance Plans and Due Care Documentation.

Zach is able to continue advancing his capabilities and expertise through Envirologic’s intensive training program. Every Envirologic employee receives a personalized training/development plan, is assigned and works with a mentor, participates in biweekly company-wide professional development and technical training, attends conferences and seminars, and is invited to participate in a development organization. Through Envirologic, Zach is a Professional Member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG), an association that certifies the competence and ethical conduct of geologists and provides members with continuing education information and other resources. Envirologic continually invests in staff training, certifications, and professional development to maintain a high level of knowledge among our project team.

One of Zach’s favorite parts of his job is that every day is different — one day he could be performing a site assessment at a former gas station, the next he might be installing a vapor mitigation system at an industrial facility. Further, the project work Zach performs offers a mental challenge that he appreciates; for example, the process of finalizing the installation of a vapor mitigation system entails balancing the system and determining the most effective method to ensure that the system will function as designed for each unique building layout. Zach also loves to travel, and during his time at Envirologic he has visited lots of different locations across the region — from Cincinnati to Louisville to Camdenton, Missouri.

Outside of work, Zach and his wife Aly spend most of their free time renovating their new house, which they purchased last fall. One of their finished home improvement projects is a trail they built for riding their ATVs that stretches around their property. Zach also enjoys other outdoor activities including hiking, hunting, rock and mineral collecting, and camping (the couple tries to take at least two camping trips per season). Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Zach was also part of a local Men’s Ice Hockey League, which he hopes to return to later this year.
